Synacor Selected by Freeloader.com to Expand Distribution of LEGO® Games Online
May 18th 2006
Synacor, the leading provider of premium content and services on the Internet, today announced an agreement with Freeloader.com to make the new LEGO PC Games online gaming service available to more than 10 million broadband homes. LEGO PC Games will be presented as part of a premium family and entertainment package(s) to be distributed through Synacor’s network of cable and telecommunication partners
“By combining Freeloader.com’s digital delivery expertise in the games sector with Synacor’s ability to gain acceptance of premium content in the home, we can reach and entertain today’s computer-savvy children in a whole new way,” said Jay Bruns, LEGO Group director of partnership and alliance management. “Leveraging the popularity of the Web with kids to extend our brand is one reason why the LEGO Group continues to be one of the world’s most well-known and loved brands.”
LEGO Group worked with specialist games digital distributor Freeloader.com to build a subscription-based online and PC gaming service featuring a variety of fun LEGO® games and activities that teach children about LEGO family and playtime values. Both companies will leverage Synacor’s paid content expertise and technology platform to package and distribute LEGO Games in a way that immediately attracts and retains paying subscribers. By enabling single sign-on access to LEGO PC Games in addition to a variety of other fun and educational offerings–all for a low monthly fee–Synacor is able to provide a complete and personalized Internet experience that appeals to today’s families.
“By combining Freeloader and Synacor’s premium content delivery platforms as well as knowledge and expertise, we are able to quickly bring LEGO PC Games into millions of homes without having to worry about integrating with other systems, customer billing or support,” said Tarick Kreimeia, CEO of Freeloader.com Limited. “This allowed us to enter the U.S. market with one of the most respected premium content aggregators in the sector, so we could focus on our core expertise–designing digital game services that allow consumers to enjoy meaningful interactions with their favorite brands.”
With LEGO PC Games, children can create a virtual world of medieval adventures with classic LEGO Minifigures, make up songs and dance routines for a virtual band, speed through themed worlds in their own virtually constructible LEGO car, and enjoy dozens of other fun games.
“Our licensing agreement with Freeloader.com gives Synacor the opportunity to work with a premier digital games distributor as well as with the LEGO Group, whose global heritage brand continues to have a deep impact on how our children learn and play,” said Ron Frankel, CEO and president of Synacor. “We are proud to be working with both Freeloader.com and LEGO Group to enhance our premium gaming and family offerings for broadband subscribers.”
