Synacor Named Best Places to Work and Cyberculture Winner for 2007

April 1st 2007

Every company likes to win awards, and we’re no different. However, we take particular pride in two recent awards, both reflecting the culture of Synacor that we work so hard to sustain. In 2007, Synacor was named one 2007’s Best Places to Work in the Buffalo/Niagara area, by Buffalo’s Business First newspaper.

Business First is the Buffalo area’s primary business newspaper, and is a publication of Bizjournals, the nation’s largest publisher of metropolitan business newspapers. Bizjournals operates 41 print business journals.

Business First, in conjunction with Quantum, invited hundreds of Western New York businesses to participate in a survey that lets employees measure their work environment. To complete the process, each company invited their employees to complete a voluntary 40-question survey online.

The survey took six to eight minutes to complete. Selected survey questions included:
• My immediate co-workers consistently go the extra mile to achieve great results.
• My team effectively collaborates, leveraging individual strengths.
• I would like to be working at this organization one year from today.
• I have a close and trusting relationship with one or more co-workers.
• My immediate supervisor regularly gives me constructive feedback on my job performance.

The responses to the questions asked were analyzed by Quantum, and each company’s results indicated how “engaged” their employees are at the company.

Synacor participated in the “small company” (51-150 employees) category and had a high percentage of our employees completing the survey. Because of the impressive results, the firm was named a “Best Places to Work” at a reception held at the Hyatt Regency Buffalo on March 27th, 2007.

The second award we received in 2007 was granted by a Western New York-based IT trade association. Every year, infoTech Niagara hosts the “Beta Awards”, with several categories encompassing both individual and collective accomplishments. Synacor won the 2007 Cyberculture Award for exhibiting a positive, productive and encouraging work environment.

Jeffrey Ross, Executive Director of infoTech Niagara, had this to say: “While there are many great places to work in Western New York, Synacor has consistently risen to the top in employee satisfaction. It’s just a great place to work! I can’t think of another company more deserving of the infoTech Niagara Cyberculture Award.”

The trade association asked Buffalo-area technology firms why their companies were a cool place to work. Synacor’s submission promoted its internal advancement opportunities and 100 percent employer-paid medical, dental and vision coverage, as well as non-traditional benefits such as 25-cent vending machines and free gourmet coffee, cappuccino and espresso. infoTech Niagara also named Synacor a BETA Awards finalist in Best Success Story, Executive of the Year and IT Technology award categories.
