Susquehanna Communications Partners With Synacor To Bundle Premium Content Subscriptions With Broadband Access
SusCom Customers in Four States Can Enjoy Premium Online Content with Single Sign-On, Single Monthly Bill
March 4th 2003
BUFFALO, NY and YORK, PA, March 4, 2003 — Susquehanna Communications (SusCom) customers will soon begin enjoying premium content subscriptions along with their broadband Internet service as the result of a deal announced today between the cable company and Synacor, the leading online content provisioning company. SusCom is integrating Synacor’s Portelus™ platform into its high-speed Internet access service, enabling its customers to easily subscribe to premium content that Synacor has licensed from major media concerns, such as Walt Disney Internet Group and FOXSports.com.
The SusCom-Synacor agreement marks the beginning of a new era in which Internet access providers transition to a cable television model, bundling Web access with premium content and services. Synacor’s technology enables high quality subscription content from disparate sources to be delivered through one service provider without the hassle of multiple registrations, log-ins and bills. SusCom, which is one of the nation’s top 20 cable and broadband companies, will launch its Synacor-enhanced service with a broadband access and premium content subscription bundle for $39.95 in early April. SusCom provides broadband access to its subscribers in Illinois, Indiana, Maine and Pennsylvania.
“We are thrilled to partner with SusCom, which has led the way in providing its subscribers with innovative Internet solutions,” said Ron Frankel, president and CEO of Synacor. “With the launch of Synacor’s Portelus platform through SusCom, consumers will have easy access to the best premium content available today on the Internet without having to go to many different sites, remember various log-in passwords and deal with multiple credit card charges.”
“Synacor is providing SusCom with a complete solution that includes the infrastructure and content we need to provide our customers with the best content and services on the Internet without leaving our site,” said Dan Templin, vice president marketing & programming for Susquehanna Communications. “We see this innovative subscription service as a win-win for both our company and our customers.”
Synacor’s Portelus platform enables access providers to increase revenue by offering content and value-added services that their subscribers might otherwise purchase elsewhere. Synacor’s robust provisioning platform enables the integration of both video and non-video content and services from multiple content providers. Using the Portelus platform, access providers can customize their offerings into different subscription tiers and bill for content access along with their monthly service charge, much like the cable television industry. Unified registration, single sign-on and integrated billing make the experience seamless for their subscribers. Synacor’s end-to-end solution includes an integration and unification system, a brandable and customizable portal framework, and a wide menu of licensed content from leading online content providers, such as Walt Disney Internet Group, FOXSports.com, Experian Consumer Direct and CinemaNow.
